City Dispatch: Edinburgh

When it came to choosing a location for our business for us Edinburgh was a no-brainer. Our dream was to set up a brewery in Scotland 10 years ago and the capital was the obvious choice. Edinburgh is the city with the best range of cask ale bars in Scotland, the city has a history draped in brewing culture and it is hoe to Heriot-Watt’s prestigious School of Brewing and Distilling. The city has been kind to us and welcomed our beer with open arms, the landlords and restaurants have been passionate for a range of quality local beers and we have loved supplying them.

"Edinburgh's small and compact city centre makes it a perfect city to live and work in. It is so condensed that when I am out and about visiting customers I can easily park up, grab my stuff and walk from pub to pub. I can see 15-20 customers within a square mile and it means I can avoid trying to park in the city centre."

Having lived here now for some 14 years, I very much consider it my home now and my business life. It truly is a beautiful city, strenuous walk up the iconic Arthurs Seat provides the most fabulous views down over Holyrood Park and across the city towards the Firth of Forth to the north and the Pentland Hills to the South.

The streets are busy throughout the year and the city certainly has a buzz of tourists taking in the sites from the majestic Castle. Princes Street Gardens, the Royal Mile and far beyond. When the world famous International Arts and Fringe Festivals arrive in August the city’s population swells massively and this really changes the feel of the city. I personally love the vibrancy this brings but I know my delivery drivers struggle to navigate through the swarm of visitors and performers.

My personal favourite area has to be the winding streets and lanes of the Old town, you always feel there is something new to discover and the history of the city is breath-taking.
